Director / Producer / Editor  -  2001-Present              

Launched an independent production company in 2001 to develop film, video and web-based projects, and to collaborate as a co-production entity with others on outside projects. Conceive ideas, write scripts, organize schedules and budgets, work cameras, lighting and sound equipment, and edit. Most notably we released “120 Days” in 2015, a feature documentary about illegal immigration that I wrote, directed, and edited. 

  1. -“120 Days” premiered in the Austin Film Festival and has won 10 awards and 4 nominations in 25 film festivals so far, inlcuding St. Louis, RiverRun, Atlanta, Palm Beach, and Dances With Films.

  2. -Projects have been broadcast internationally and competed in more than 40 film festivals, including winning awards for Best Feature & Best Director (2015 Richmond Int’l), Best Documentary (“120 Days”/Kansas Int’l, Charleston Int’l, Longleaf, CineVision Fest, “Somay Ku”/2008 Malibu), Best Made-in-NC (“120 Days”/Longleaf), and Best Student Film (“Gentleman Don La Mancha”/2007 Mexico Int’l).

  3. -Most recent work includes directing & editing 3 acoustic music videos for Drake White (Dot Records) and editing several fundraising work samples for Maggie Stogner’s “In the Executioner’s Shadow.”

“Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life” on MTV

DiGa Vision / Magic Seed Productions

Editor / Producer  -  January 2011 - December 2013 

Produced and co-edited an MTV docu-series following the life of international pop star, Ke$ha, as she traveled around the world on her first headlining tour. Shooting began in 2011 when I worked for Magic Seed Productions. The project was sold to MTV in early 2013, ultimately becoming season one of "Ke$ha: My Crazy, Beautiful Life." The six-episode, first season premiered in April 2013, and the eight-episode second season premiered in October 2013.

  1. -I co-produced the original treatment and budget, pitched the series to  multiple networks/distributors, traveled on Ke$ha’s bus for multiple shows as a cameraman and sound operator, and spent months rough cutting hundreds of hours of footage.

  2. -After the project was sold to MTV and DiGa Vision, I remained onboard as a producer and consulting editor through end of the first season, and then was re-hired as a producer/editor when the network opted for season two.

“Investigating Power” Project

American University’s Investigative Reporting Workshop 

Editor / Producer  -  December 2009 - April 2012

Edited and produced “Investigating Power,” a series of fifty HD videos culled from over one-hundred hours of interviews with luminary journalists including Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein, Christiane Amanpour, Mike Wallace, Seymour Hersh, and Helen Thomas. These journalists discuss and debate moments in history when journalism “spoke truth to power”. These videos are personal perspectives from those who covered monumental historical events such as the civil rights movement, McCarthyism, Vietnam, Watergate, Iraq and Afghanistan.

  1. -Videos were released at the launch of in April 2012, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.  All videos are now live and available on the website, and a selected few are also included in my video portfolio.

“World War II Valor in the Pacific” Webisode Project

National Park Service 

Editor / Producer  -  2010 - 2011

Edited and produced four short documentaries about the Pearl Harbor attack for the National Park Service in Hawaii.  These videos are currently on display in the new Pearl Harbor Visitors Center, and also used on-line in an NPS webisode series.  The documentaries feature first-hand accounts from survivors, both military and civilian, American and Japanese. Granted behind-the-scenes access to sites, memorials and archival material rarely seen by the public.

  1. -Official selections in the 2011 Newport Beach and 2011 St. Louis International Film Festivals.  The series also won a 2011 CINE Golden Eagle Award for Professional New Media.

National Oceanic & Atmospheric Admin. (NOAA)

Media Producer / Editor  -  January 2009 - Present

Produced, shot, and edited short HD web videos for NOAA’s Ocean Media Center, serving first as the Oak Ridge Institute of Science and Education (ORISE) Scholar, and later hired as a freelance producer. These videos were used for NOAA’s website and other forms of online distribution.

The American News Project – Washington, D.C.

Coordinating Producer / Editor  -  Summer 2008

Worked as a video-journalist covering Washington politics for an on-line, investigative news website. Edited and produced 6 videos, all of which were picked up by the Huffington Post, and have recorded hundreds of thousands of views to date.  More information in “Selected Filmography” section.

“Chesapeake Gold” / “Ecoviews”

Co-Producer / Editor  -  2008-2009  -  Maryland Public Television (MPT)

Directed, edited, and co-produced one of three segments in a 30-minute documentary about the health of the Chesapeake Bay, which was broadcast on MPT and numerous other regional PBS affiliates.

  1. -A co-production between MPT and American University, these documentaries won several awards in journalism, environmental filmmaking, and student documentary areas (see awards section below).

  2. -“Ecoviews” was one of nine 2010 National Student Academy Award Finalists and a Regional Winner.

“Palmetto Pointe” Television Series

Co-Lead Editor  -  2004 - 2005 – Charleston, S.C.

Collaborated with one other lead editor and a small editorial department to complete 5 episodes of a short-lived television series called “Palmetto Pointe”, which was broadcast on the PAX / “i” network.

Operation Webcast

Creative Director / Video Producer -  2005 – Charleston, S.C. and Wilmington, N.C.

Shot, edited and produced multiple medical-based video projects for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Managed planning and budgeting, working cameras, post-production editing and encoding, and uploading the final products for MUSC’s internet platform.
